presence . absence
My recent work comes from an infatuation with certain objects and imagery: dead birds, caged birds, tattered flags in an empty lot, barren trees against the sky. I work with these images out of a sort of uncertain compulsion, usually paring them down to the barest element: that of the silhouette or a bare wire sculpture. Sparked by a sense of admiration and awe, the work resulting from my exploration of these images resonates with a sense of isolation and desolation. Somewhat baffled by the intuitive process of my artmaking, I can only pair down my understanding of the work- it resides on the pivot point between presence and absence.
