With afterlife, I am using imagery from the last moments of Amelia Earhart's life to examine and confront mortality.  I am making maps, studying palmistry, and creating artifacts that are fictions as a means to channel, guide, and re-present.

 

I have focused on Amelia, a powerful, passionate woman, because she is ingrained in the American consciousness as an icon of feminism, as revealed through the continued search for her plane and remains and the biopic by Mira Nair.  I hope to continue this project, engaging in the same level of in-depth research and studied concentration with other women, potentially Emily Dickinson, Virginia Woolf, Frida Kahlo, and Russian novelist and mathematician Sophie Kowalevski.
